In 2025, Kim Lang was invited to present his solo exhibition Echoes Across the Atlantic at the Luxembourgish Embassy in London. The exhibition brought together three interconnected strands of his practice: his personal artistic work alongside the photojournalistic series Odyssey of Reconnection and Nations of the Atlantic. Together, these bodies of work reflect on themes of identity, belonging, and cultural memory through a deeply personal and transatlantic lens.
Odyssey of Reconnection traces Lang’s ongoing journey of reconciling with his Cape Verdean heritage, expanding personal narrative into a wider reflection on migration, hybridity, and diasporic identity. Rooted in the artist’s own experience, the work explores how culture travels, evolves, and reshapes itself across generations and geographies.
This dialogue continues in Nations of the Atlantic, which turns its focus to island communities spanning West Africa and the Caribbean. Here, the ocean emerges as both a connective force and a site of vulnerability, foregrounding the everyday realities of places shaped by the sea while drawing attention to regions often marginalised within global conversations on climate change.
Complementing these documentary works, Lang’s artistic practice reimagines fashion photography as a form of narrative expression grounded in introspection, mythology, and emotional truth. By challenging the conventions of high-gloss fashion imagery, his work creates a visual language that bridges continents, histories, and lived experiences—offering a layered exploration of identity as fluid, evolving, and shared.
